Fiberglass is available as a loose fill/blown-in insulation or as rolls and batts. We purchase fiberglass insulation from the top insulation manufacturers including CertainTeed, Fibertek, Johns Manville, Knauf, and Owens Corning. Fiberglass is good at stopping conductive heat transfer, sort of like an oven mit is good at protecting your hand from a hot pan.
Loose fill or blown in insulation is installed by professionals using specialized equipment and is good at filling the small gaps, leaks and crevices in the attic. It's more difficult than simply using rolls of insulation, but far more effective in its coverage. Rolls and batts of fiberglass insulation are great in crawl spaces and basements because they fit tightly between floor joists.
